I'm Shefali, your photography educator and business mentor. Before we embark on this journey together, I am going to share a bit of my personal story – a narrative that has influenced my identity and defines my role in becoming an educator.
From Passion to Purpose: My Journey
2012
Imagine teenage me, navigating high school with dreams as big as my backpack—feeling out of place. While my peers thrived in academics, I was captivated by the creative world of photography. At 16, I got my first DSLR and believed I was destined to be the next big photography star! But coming from a South Asian background, photography wasn’t seen as a “real” career. The expectation was to follow a stable, traditional path, so I chose physical therapy instead.
2017
In 2017, I graduated college with a degree in Kinesiology, leaving me feeling unfulfilled and restless. So, I chose to break free from societal expectations and take a chance on my passion, even though it felt like stepping into the unknown. I launched my photography business with nothing but ambition and a camera, determined to make it work. But here’s the hard truth I quickly learned: being a skilled photographer isn’t enough to build a thriving business.

The truth is, it wasn’t easy—I had to navigate countless challenges and learn the ropes of running a business through trial and error. Each mistake taught me valuable lessons that helped me build the business I have today. Now, I’m here to share those lessons with you so you can skip the guesswork and grow your business with the tools I wish I had when I began.
